Zumba Master Class postponed due to Ash Clouds

Well, aroun 7:45 pm, we recieved even more bad news. Nathan and Maria would not be in the local airport till after 10 PM, so we did a votation.

Nathan was ready to do a late night master class or have the master class tomorrow. Since it was already very late and most of us had to go home and sleep before work tomorrow, it was decided to postpone the masterclass till the next day. Of course people would get their money back if they couldn't attend.

Well, I already have 2 zumba classes tomorrow, so to do a master class after those, is gonna make me so tired. but it's do-able, so I will try my best. One thing, though. I'm running out of clothes to wear. So as soon as I got home, I put my clothes in the machine and started to look for things to wear tomorrow. I wasn't sure if I had any, but picked out two "outfits" for both zumba sessions.

Another concern I have about tomorrow is. Tomorrow is the small carnival parade called "Battle of Carnival" - where all the big, professional dance troops will compete. I'm afraid I won't be able to see that parade now. Well, Nathan means more to me than the parade cause the big carnival parade will be Saturday, so I think I'll be ok. I hope they put Nathan on a bit later, so I can make it to both.

When schedule fails...

Well, Nathan and Maria are running late due to a delayed flight from either London or Copenhagen, so I figured... What better way to kill time, than to write here, right? Atleast it's in the zumba spirit ;).
I went to the children's carnival the other day, with my friend and her daughter. The little girl loved it. She was dancing all day.. Around 2 pm it started raining. I decided that the outdoor zumba event was not that important to me afterall, so I went home to relax on my sofa instead.

It's my first time at this new zumba place. It's in an industry area and this is the only sign of zumba when you pass by.
The location is creepy. The changing room is so small, yet in ok condition. The bench only fits 1 person. Luckily I changed into my zumba clothes at home, but had to change my shoes and socks and put on my ankle supporters.

Well, the good thing is. The dance room is huge!

Oh here comes bad news. Nathan and Maria will not show up for another 2 hours due to the Icelandic ash clouds..

They have some warm up instructors who will make us sweat while we wait. Good thing I brought 2 tops ;)

This is my waiting position ;)

It's been a very busy week!

It's been a very busy week for me and the week is not even over yet! The only day without any zumba, samba, latin or dance fit, was Thursday. I love that I always have something on my schedule.. However, this week, I've also been spending a lot of time on the computer, as I had 2 big family events coming up, that needed my attention. I've been writing, editing, printing and folding songs for the confirmation party, which is a tradition we have here. To write a song about the life of the person we'te celebrating. I also had to make the invitations for my parents' 25th. Anniversarry in July.

Yesterday my cousin had his confirmation in church, followed by a confirmation party for the family. Yesterday was a national holiday here in Denmark, so we all had the day off from work. Me and my brother was not invited to the church, as the church benches would not fit the entire family. It was pure luck to me!!! That same morning as my parents were on the way to church, I could get a ride with them to the gym, that is only 2 minutes away from that particular church.. Our zumba instructor made a funk, zamba and zumba event for us that morning, as normal zumba classes in the afternoon were canselled due to the holiday.

Funk was something completely different than what we were used to. He used r&b mixed with hip hop and broke down a choreography for us to learn step by step. It felt very awkward, cause usualy we just follow his choreography through an entire song.. But this is how they teach real choreographys, I know. Similar to what we do in dance fit. Well, it was fun to try something new, but this is why I never joined a dance school. I think people look so stiff when they've been taught a special way.. Me, I like to put my own twist on the dance moves, and I always get compliments on my dance when I'm out. People ask me where I learned to dance and I tell them: the dance floor :) Music is what makes me dance!! For the fun of it, our instructor tried to bring us to the floor, to see if he could make us do some break dance.. With no luck of course ;)
One of the songs we used during funk was one of my favorite songs..

I admit it, I might be almost 35 years old, but the hip hop beats will always remain in me and Fat Joe is one of my favorites. Of course the instructor also had to bring a little Usher flavor to the class as well, so he played this one.

I guess I don't have to tell you that I'm a big Usher fan, right? But lately I was starting to think Ne-Yo would replace Usher.. But together the two of them make some fine music.. and videos ;)

Samba was fun, too.. However, when he put on some strange gypsy music, I found it very hard to follow the music.. And when the music was speeded up, it was just crazy and you couldn't do anything but try your best and have fun with it! This morning, I feel the samba in my butt! And with all the food we had at the party yesterday, which was all ecological, I wonder if I'll be able to move at zumba in 30 minutes.

Tomorrow there's an out door zumba event in town, which I'll write more about later!

Exciting news!

It's Sunday evening and I promised myself that I would turn it in to a tradition, that I would soak my feet in a hot foot bath once a week. Well, Sunday seems to be the best day for a tradition like that, as I often stay home that day. Well, this week I bought foot bath salt for my weekly footbath and I'm currently soaking my feet. It feels great.

I've been working by the computer all day today. I have been making invitations and surprises for my parents' 25th. anniversary. July 22nd. is their anniversary, so they asked me to make the invitations, since I usualy make those because I love to play with photo editing. My neck hurts from being on the computer all day, so once I'm done writing here, I will definitely lay down on the sofa for a bit, before going to bed.

Monday I went to latin mix and dance fit, making sure to take it slow so I wouldn't injure my ankle once again. It worked. I was walking fine the next day. Tuesday night I went to the movies with my friend. We used to go to the movies a lot on Tuesday nights as I was able to get tickets 50% off that day. Well, I used to go to the gym on Tuesday for the past many weeks, but since the Tuesday dance fit class has been taken off the schedule, I now have time for the movies again. We went to see "Water for Elephants." A great movie. It made me realise, that I haven't been to a circus in ages. I must've been a kid when I was last in a circus.

Monday my friend asked me if I wanted to go with her on a trip to NYC and Montreal this summer. Usualy I need time to think things through.. But when she asked me again when we were at the movies and she said she would only give me one more day to make up my mind. I started thinking fast. I love NYC. I haven't been there in 10 years, so now would be a good time to go back. She's single, I'm single and none of us has any kids. I don't know who would ever go with me on a trip like this in the future. So I decided it was time to grab the chance when it's here. So... I'm going to NYC and Montreal this summer!! :) We bought the tickets the next day.

Wednesday I went to the samba class. I got there in time to work some machines first. I'm focusing on my arms, cause zumba and dance seem to be enough exercise for my legs and butt. The machines I use are for arms and back, so I think I'm covered for now. before going to the gym, I stopped by town for 20 minutes. I passed a second hand shop and saw a beautiful set of vintage dinner and coffee china. It was a bit expensive, but I just couldn't leave it alone. I bought it 5 minutes later. Of course I couldn't bring it to the gym, so I picked it up the next day. I'm only going to use the china for special occasions. I love vintage china dinner service. They just don't make pretty patterns like that any more, and that's why I bought this right away. My mom has a set, too, that she bought from someone many years ago. We use it for special occasions like Christmas eve, New year's eve and birthdays. I think that is what I will be doing with mine, too.. However, I will be incooperating pieces of it every now and then. I got 86 pieces in total!! Should something break, I won't cry as I only paid 2 $ a piece, when you look at it. So realy, I think I did good, eventhough it was a lot of money to spend, that I could've spent in NYC. But again, this was too good a chance/ offer, to pass by.

Friday the 13th. realy was a "Friday 13th." at work. We were all stressing from the very morning, later someone had to leave work in a hurry as his son was rushed to the hospital... Before lunch, we got an unannounced visit by the Working Environment Authority. We had nothing to be afraid of, but when we were told, that they came to look for a certain folder that we filled out a while ago, we were all running around trying to locate it.. Well, we found some of it, but he said we needed to fill out some more papers, but he seemed satisfied to find out that we knew where those papers were after all. When he was finaly gone, we decided that it was time to treat ourselves with something nice for lunch.. So yeah, it was a stressful day at work.
At zumba, my cousin presented me with her new dance sneakers and told me that the woman who sold her the shoes, said hi, as she knew who I was. My other cousin sent me a text message asking me when and where I go to zumba. I hope that some day she will join us. I was always overweight and I see how my cousins grow up. It must be something in our genese, that if we don't take care of our body, we will end up overweight and even fat.. Cause although I lost a lot of weight, I am still overweight and I will probably always be, but atleast I'm fit now!
Zumba was great as always Friday. I wore a sweatband for the first time. I was not realy using it as a sweatband, but more like a hair band. I hate that I have to use 5-6 bobby pins in my bangs everytime I'm at the gym. Using the sweatband, I only had to use one. and my theory worked. The sweatband is what I'll be using from now on! As I walked into our zumba studio at the gym, I heard the instructor say "so next Friday, there will be a special dance event with zumba, samba and fun." Friday the 20th. of May is a national holiday here in Denmark and I am going to my cousin's confirmation party that day, so I knew I couldn't join the event. I felt so bad.. Untill I heard him say the magic words "from 10-12" - then I still had hope. Normaly at a confirmation party, you go to see the kids in church, but because the churches are too small, me and my brother is only invited for the party afterwards, which is a 2 PM. That leaves me plenty of time to go to the dance event and dress for the party afterwards.
My  friend invited herself over to my place after zumba. We ordered pizza since that seemed to be the easy solution as we got home to my place late. She crashed on my sofa and the next morning we both took the same bus. Actualy she lives right next to the gym, so as I went to my Saturday morning zumba class, she went home. She also signed up for the Dance Event next Friday and as she lives right next to the gym, I asked if I could shower and get ready for the party at her place, and she said yes.

Well, with the dance event, my next week seems very booked. I didn't think I would be going to zumba Friday, so I squeezed in something Tuesday instead.

Monday I have my usual latin mix and dance fit.
Tuesday I noticed a class at the other gym being changed into latin fit, with the instructor that I have for samba at the other gym on Wednesdays. So I signed up for the Tuesday Latin fit class.
Wednesday I have Samba. Friday I have the 2 hour dance event and Saturday morning, my usual Zumba class.

After buying the flight ticket to NYC and Montreal, me and my friend have both been coming up with ideas of things to see, places to go and things to buy while we're over there. I notices, that the dance sneakers I use for zumba has it's own shop in NYC. Well, the makers of the shoes, does. Sansha. They also sell dance clothes, so I hope I'll be able to find it and possible buy some new shoes. I already contacted the shop and they replied right away with which shoes they would recommend for zumba. Good service.

So you see, I have a full schedule next week, with a lot of things on my mind. Still planning my parents' anniversay, a surprise for my cousin's confirmation party, figuring out what clothes and make-up to wear and plan my trip. I think I will be extremely tired next Sunday, but hopefuly I'll have an awesome week!

Pre Zumba exercises for your body

After soaking my feet in a nice lavendar bath, I filed them and cut my toe nails. Yep, I feel so good now, knowing  did something good for my feet.

I just came across some videos on youtube, which I thought might be helpful to other people like me, who have weak ankles.. They give small examples of what you could do to warm up your joints before zumba class.

Now, my zumba instructor is a professional dancer, who also teaches ballet, so I'm sure he knows how we should warm up. Our warm up routines changes from time to time.. But I think I will think about these exercises in the future, because of my weak ankles. I also own a balance board, which I was recommended by my doctor about a decade ago, when my ankle problem was at it worst. Back then, I could even trip over my own big toe. Well, my shape ups shoes has helped me gain strength in my ankles and now zumba is helping along. It's funny, with my weak ankles, you would think it was impossible for me to do zumba. But nope, because of my good shoes, I can do it for hours and hours.

Dancer's feet and samba

I have waited long enough.. It was definitely time, so I finaly did it! I made a nice foot bath with lavender oil, in which I'm currently resting my dancing feet. You know how ballet dancer's feet look? No, that's not how bad mine are, but I will say, you can see that my feet is definitely showing signs of being stressed and squeezed. So I'm currently enjoying my first footbath in years and I've actualy decided, that I will turn this into a habit. So from now on, I plan on making myself a nice footbath every Sunday night. I know I could do so much more on pampering myself, but for now, my feet is what I will be focusing on.

This was my first week back at work since my long Easterbreak. I was expecting to be tired, but for some reason, it wasn't hard to adjust again at all.

Monday night, I had a latin mix and dance fit class. It was great as always. However, I have weak ankles and hypermobile joints, which resulted in a Tuesday where I could hardly walk. The thing is. For some reasons, the dance fit instructor always wants us to do dance routines with heel and toe positions that I struggle putting my feet into, because of my weak ankles. The problem is. I try my hardest to do them and it doesn't hurt eventhough I struggle. But the next day, I feel the pain that a normal person would feel when positioning the foot in a bad way, leading to an injury... One day too late to stop in time to avoid the injury. The injury I often  So Tuesday morning, I found myself crawling on the floor to save time. The injury I get with my ankles, is basicaly what you would call a sprained ankle. I'm used to this, so I know how to take care of my ankles. I put on my ankle pain relief supports, which I always make sure to use when dancing and doing zumba. That didn't make me walk properly, but it was better than not wearing them. I went to work, and although I walked a lot slower than normal, I was able to do work. When I got home, I had a pain relief tablet, that took some of the pain away, but when I went to bed that night, I still didn't have my proper walk back. I was hoping that a night in bed would work magic, so I would not feel any pain the next morning.

Wednesday the pain was gone and my foot seemed back to normal and I was hoping that I could attend the samba class later that afternoon. I did it and it was so much fun! I signed up for 4 samba classes at the gym, 1 class each Wednesday in May. May 28th. my city has a huge carnival where everyone can attend , so my gym made the samba classes for people to get inspired on how to dance in the parade. I'm not joining the parade, but always go to see it. I love to see how people dress out and especialy love to see how much effort the big troops have put into it. And of course, I love the music. I don't really remember if any of the troops ever danced real samba here in my city... Well, this year, I'll try to keep an eye out for real samba. Well, the samba class was so much fun. I heard that the instructor had actualy been pulled in as a substitut for my Brazilian zumba instructor at the other gym, some weeks ago, so I was looking forward to see who the instructor was and how good she would be. I noticed, that I had seen the instructor before. She has been at some of my latin mix classes, taking notes as if she was in the process of becoming a latin mix instructor. I think she recognised me. I noticed she was wearing shoes from the dance sneakers shop in town, where I also bought mine. To me, the samba class seemed like a normal latin mix class, but with a lot of energy put into it. I didn't spot any of the Brazilian samba steps that we have be practicing at zumba, but who knows.. maybe those will come next time. I think it was a great exercise and told the instructor that she would be a good substitute for our zumba instructor any time.

Friday I had my 2 usual zumba classes. My cousin joined the first class like last Friday. I'm so happy that she also sees zumba as a fun way to work out!
Saturday the instructor was running a bit late, but we're used to that. However, normaly we would just stay there for the extra minutes, but this time, the room was rented out for a book reception, so as the time was 12:05 PM, some old men was standing in the door looking very annoyed with the situation. I always stand in the corner by the door, so I tried talking with the men, but they were not giving in. So I had to think of a creative way to inform our instructor, so I did a little improvised dance to the front of the room where he was, to let him know, that the men had paid money to be in the room now, so we had to end the zumba class in the middle of the last routine and without stretch out. Well, I'm used to leaving a dance class without stretch out and doing my own stretch out in the changing room, so I was ok with it. I did some stretch out afterwards and haven't felt any pain anywhere in my body, so I guess I did ok.

This upcoming week, my schedule looks the same.
Monday: Latin Mix & Dance Fit
Wednesday: Samba
Friday: 2xZumba
Saturday: Zumba

I hope I will always be able to fill out my work out schedule with atlest 6 hours of work out every week. Lately I've had to change my schedule every now and then, and I hope that, one way and the other.

I think it's time for me to take up my feet and rest on the sofa for the rest of the evening. Tomorrow is the beginning of a new week!
