I lost 20 kg!!!

Yesterday I had 2 hours of zumba and this morning I stepped on the scale and saw that I lost the 20 kg. (44,09 lbs).. 20,1kg. to be exact. I was so happy.. Cause eventhough I already lost that weight before, it felt good to prove to myself, that I could do it all over again in 6 months! This time I know I'm keeping it off because I have zumba in my life now. Before I had nothing except the 1 hour of hard and boring work out at the gym that didn't realy do me any good. Now I go to zumba as much as possible and it's always a joy!

This morning I left at 9:50 AM to catch a bus to zumba. It was cold and raining and most people would have stayed in bed.. But I left with a smile knowing that I would be spending time with a dear friend.. Zumba! Well that and the other zumbanistas and the instructor who's secretly been bringing his girlfriend to the classes yesterday and today. I felt like I was the only one who knew about it, so I just kept it to myself. It was funnt standing next to her while taking instructions from her boyfriend. If anything was different from the usual zumba classes it was the level we were doing. It was a bit more difficult to keep up than usual... I don't think was was trying to show off to his girlfriend. I think he thinks that we have reached another level on the zumba latter.. Fine with me, cause the more he makes us work, the more calories I burn and that's what makes me lose weight!

Here's one of the songs we use in his classes now.

We don't use the same choreograph, but something close to it.. But basicaly it's all about keeping your waist spinning to the changing speed of the music.

I have a latin fitness class tomorrow. Then next week I'll have a super busy schedule with zumba and latin every day.

Zumba Master Class with Nathan Blake

Time is going so fast these days and I know why. I go to zumba classes (a mix of real zumba and latin fitness classes), 6 days a week. It's dark and often late before I return home from zumba, so when I get home, I fall asleep on the sofa right away. Fall has a great deal to do with that.. Cause it's dark most of the day now.It makes my body wamy to sleep and that's why I never seem to find time for blogging any more.. But I will try to do an up-date now.

Last Friday, my zumba instructor was not able to have his 2 zumba classes that I normaly attend. Instead, the Colombian woman took over. I normaly join both of his classes, but since it was the woman, I decided only to join one. She's no where near his level and I find it so frustrating that the woman can't keep up with the music. What I mean is.. She's rushing and everything seems to come to her in a distant moment and nothing is planned ahead or practiced.. She simply speeds up and doesn't follow the music. Luckily the zumba instructor was back for Saturday's zumba class.

Friday I was told about a Zumba Master Class with Nathan Blake in town. I didn't know who he was, so I did a youtube search and decided to sign up for the class, which is next Thursday. From the videos I saw, I can tell that he's at my instructor's level, so hopefuly I will be able to keep up. Easpecialy since Nathan Blake is known for his videos on youtube, and I have been informed, that zumba wear would be perfect for this event since it will be taped. I'm a bit nervous about that.. but what the heck. I've seen other people look goofy on videos, too. But I'm getting very excited.

This morning when I went on the scale, I found out that I'm now just 1 kg. (2.20 lbs) from dropping the 20 kg. (44.09 lbs). When I look back at my old weightloss, it took me 6 months to drop that much, which means, my deadline is in 4 days. I won't be mad at myself if I don't make it, cause I've already acomplished so much more than just losing weight. My life has changed for the better.. There's still room for even better adjustments in my life, but right now I feel so happy and confident and that alone is a great achievement.

Zumba Marathon

I meant to go to the arena early, but because my bus was late, I missed the second bus on my journey, so I got there 30 minutes later than I meant to..

I quickly changed in to my zumba wear including my shoes.. Then stepped into the arena that's normaly used for handball practice. I met the woman from my zumba class and we went to have a look at the zumba clothes that was represented at a booth. Unfortunately they didn't have the shirt I wanted to buy.. I guess I'll be buying it on-line some day instead.

At 5 PM a male instructor from Cuba kicked off the marathon by having us all do some Michael Jackoson moves and other moves. This was my first time to do zumba with the instructor being on a stage, and an instructor I never met.. So I did have some difficulties following his moves.. But who cares, that's what zumba is all about. You do what you can and have a party no matter what. Because we were 418 zumbanistas in the arena, it was very crowded and I didn't have enough space around me to give it my all. I also kicked 2 water bottles belonging to some people behind me. I knew that bringing water bottles on the floor would cause problems like this, which was why I brought my waist bag. Now the waist bag surved it's purpose, but it was a bit awkward. Next time I think I'll just be bringing my water bottle on a hook.

Unfortunately there were some major issues with the head sets and the music, so during the three scheduled zumba classes, there were some irritating breaks when there were no music.. However, we're all more or less professional and we were there for the purpose of having fun and that's what we had! We all took it with a smile.

During the break, they picked some lucky winners for some cool prizes.. Unfortunately I didn't win anything. Instead I made sure to fill up my water bottle and I also went to get the sandwhich we got. Because I ate a big lunch, I was not hungry at the time, so instead I put it in the goodie bag they gave us when we arived. In the goodie bag there was an apple, a banana, a bottle of water, an organic meal bar, a brick juice, 4 ice tea powders, a bag and a towel.

Next on schedule was 2 local, female instructors. They came on stage dressed with big afro wigs and sun glasses. They were showing off some 70s moves and other fun stuff. It was all new routines to me, but it was easy to see who were in their regular zumba classes, cause they all knew their routines.. I found it very anoying that the two women were doing 2 different things. When one was lifting the right hand, the other would lift the left hand. Now I'm used to watching my instructors back. That way I know exactly which leg or which arm to use. Again, I did what I could to keep up. for the last song, the instructors and a few helpers came down on the floor to the rest of us.. I knew what was going to happen, cause I had seen it on youtube before. We were going to battle! And it was the mc Creu battle. I love that song so I was all smiles.

Here's an example from another zumba workshop where the creu battle was done

I was so sweaty after this, so I made a fast change of clothes and it felt so nice. I just made it back in time for my instructor to go on. Me and the other 3 from his class moved closer to stage. He started off exactly how he starts off all his classes, by talking about the importance of wearing proper shoes. I noticed that he was wearing zumba shoes and not his regular shoes. The woman who has the shoe shop in town, was one of the founders of the marathon, so she gave him and the other instructors a pair of zumba shoes as a reward for the gesture. Then he did the body test to see if people could tell the difference between a hand and a arm and so on. The other people were making the usual mistakes, but because we have been doing this before, I think I got it somewhat right.

When he started off the routines, I felt so secure. He did the routines that we have been doing for the past month and a new one we just learned the other day. I was so happy cause now it was my time to show off on the floor. I did everything with a smile and an eye on the instructor´. Because I was doing everything right this time and the people around me didn't, I ended up bumping in to a couple of people on my way as I was doing the "single, single, double - back. and forward." Have in mind that my instructor is a profesional dancer and coreographer so he always invents new moves, but luckily he's good at explaining. They all loved him. No wonder. He's so talented, good at explaining, and he always does things with a big smile on his face. When the music accidently stopped during "La Bomba" he just did his poses and sang "sexy sexy" - yes the guy has a great sence of humor! I didn't go talk with him at all during the marathon. I felt like it might be awkward. Especialy since his girlfriend was there with him. She was recording him on stage. Anyway, once again I felt very honored. I love having him as my instructor.

When he was done, it was time to leave the areana. I had to change my sweaty clothes and when I went to pick up my jacket in the wardrobe, I was the last one to pick up the jacket. What does that say about me? That I wasn't ready to leave yet, right? Well, I did. On the way out, there were some other women talking about my instructor. They picked up a flyer from a new place that he will be teaching zumba at and said "He's the best zumba instructor in Denmark." That's what it said on the flyer, and it is true! I was talking with the woman from my zumba class about it. He's so popular that you can't help but worry that he might be too busy for our classes. So I always try to hide about his fame when people ask me, cause it's hard enough as it is to get in on one of his classes. But hey, I might be joining his classes if he has extra that fits my schedule, simply because he's so talented! But the way he asked in the zumba class, about how many were doing more than 3 zumba classes a week, I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing. So far I love how my body has changed. Everyone is complimenting me on my body size now. I'm starting to have the right porportions for a change. The woman from my zumba class was kind enough to give me a ride home. When I got home, my intention was to write about the marathon, but I was so exhausted that it had to wait till today.

Today I went to my friend's birthday party. Her mom was so surprised to see how much weight I had lost. She was sure that I lost more weight than the last time (after losing 30 kg.), but I haven't. But my body is completely different this time because of zumba! My butt, thigs, stomach and arms have all been slimmed down dramaticaly. When some of the guests had left, they thought that a boy had forgotten his jacket.. But nope, it was my jacket. Ha! That's just an example of how much my body has changed. I also wear tops and t-shirts in XS now. That's a dramatic change from someone who used to be an XL. Gotta love zumba!

Tomorrow is the start of a new zumba week. Every Sunday I wash my zumba clothes so it's ready for another week. I always end up running out of zumba clothes. I'm already thinking that the word Zumba will probably end up on my wish list for Christmas if people ask me. Well, the sun was shining bright all day, so I left my clothes to dry on the balcony while I was at the birthday party, and when I got home, a lot of it was dry already. I packed my bag for tomorrow. It needs to be ready because Monday is my most busy day, as I only have 45 minutes at home before leaving for zumba.

Before I leave, I found this video with pictures from yesterday's Zumba marathon. I believe they were done by Lino's (the first instructor)wife.

Friday after work, I went straight to my 2 Zumba classes with my favorite instructor.

He started the class by asking how many people were NOT going to the Zumba marathon.. Sadly most people said they weren't going. I think he was a little disapointed. But I know why some people wouldn't go. Cause it was very expensive, however, the money was going to charity - breast cancer awareness. When we were done with zumba, he told us about a dance work shop in Brazil in case any of us wanted to go. He said "maybe some of you would find this interesting".. I don't know who he meant, but some people were talking about it. But 3 weeks in Brazil with 3 hour work shops every day sounds a bit too hard for a new beginning.

I'll write about the marathon tomorrow as I'm way too tired tonigjt.

After 2 hours of zumba, I rushed home. I had to get ready to go clubbing. I knew I had a zumba class in the morning, so I prepared my bag before dressing up for clubbing. I also made sure my mom would call and wake me up in the morning in case I would be tired.

Me and my friend hardly ever go out any more.. And we were both looking very forward to it. Sadly the clubs in town are all playing the same crappy music. I did bust out a few zumba steps for the fun of it, but we never took off our jackets.. now that means it was a realy boring night. I was home around 2, so I did get about 5 hours of sleep before getting up for the morning zumba class.

When I got to zumba this morning, I was very tired. I was leaning to the wall to rest before class started. When the instructor came, he came straight to me.. leaned up against the wall too. He said that he had also been out the night before. He asked me when I was going to the marathon later and I told him I was going with one of the other zumbanistas from his class, which brought a smile to his face... I told him to put the music on and start class so that I could get energy for the marathon.

The zumba marathon is getting closer.

I started off the week with zumba, of course.. I have a heavy schedule ahead of me. 6 zumba classes and the 3 hour marathon. Sunday I have to skip one as I'm going to my friend's birthday, but I think my body will need rest after the marathon Saturday.

I'm on my way to zumba right now. Autumn has realy kicked in here in Denmark. It's very cold, windy and dark.. I know I'll be having trouble finding the joy in leaving for zumba from now on... But I'll fight it off cause I love zumba!

I skipped Zumba on Tuesday to be with the girls.

This past week has been busy as always with Zumba Monday, Wednesday, Friday and today.
I skipped Zumba Tuesday as my friends wanted to take me to the movies.. Since I have a busy zumba schedule, I allow myself to take a day or two off if I feel like it. I'm glad I did it. We saw "Going the Distance" and the movie was great.. I prefer romatic movies when I'm going to the movies, so this was a great choise.

Wednesday the instructor introduced us to "waacking" in the last 2 minutes.. I never heard of waacking, but it seemed very funny, so I decided to look up waackng on youtube. Waacking is a way of dancing with your arms.. I always use my arms when dancing, but I never think about what I'm doing. With waacking you have to think a lot about what you're doing. Here's a short introduction of waacking.

I heard on the radio that yesterday was International "dress as your hobby day." So I thought yesterday would be the perfect day to break in my "Crazy Happy" Zumba top. I think the instructor liked it. He gave me the biggest smile and a cute litte "hello wave." Friday I had two zumba classes as always. And although he once said that he doesn't remember people's names, but their faces, he definitely know who I am by now. No wonder, I've been to every single one of his zumba classes at this gym. But then again, with his busy schedule of aprox 45 various dance and zumba classes throughout the country, it's nice to know that I've made an expresion so he remembers me!

This morning I took the bus to zumba and was there on time.
Today we had to learn some new routines. As always, my arms are trouble. When the instructor has his arms to the left, I have mine to the right and the other way around. It just feels more natural to me and I'm guessing it has something to do with my constant use of my arms whenever I freestyle dance at a club.. But I don't know. I try to copy his arms and get better.
One of the women asked me if I was going to the Zumba marathon in town next Saturday.. And I said yes. She then said that she wanted to go, too.. So I told her I didn't have anyone to go with and she said "let's go together".. That means a lot to me. Although I was determined to go even if I was going alone. We didn't make any specific plans on where or when to meet, but as we're going to the zumba class in the morning, we can make the arrangements then. I'm getting more and more exited about the Zumba marathon.

The Zumba marathon is just one week away. As I've heard that more than 300 bought a ticket, I know it's going to be hard to put my water bottle and towel in a corner as I'm used to. So I had to come up with a way of carrying my water and towel without it making it difficult for me to move. A friend gave me an idea and I think it's gonna work. She suggested a waist bag.. I had one, but as my usual water bottle didn't fit, I will have to use another one. But I have several so I already found a substitute. The bag is perfect cause it also has two smaller pockets where I could fit my wallet and ticket into. So it's a perfect solution.

I found my new favorite socks for when I'm working out.. They're short socks with a mesh on top leaving the feet to breathe. I got a great deal, so I bought 10 pairs. That should get me through the week ok.

Zumba is fitness and not dancing.. But to me it's a mix, but yes.. I notice that more and more of what we're doing in our routines is actual workout. Today I feel it in my thigs.
